Which Skin Pads are Right For You?
This blog is meant to help you understand the different types of skin pads available at The Skin Company and help you decide which ones to add to your skincare regimen.
Why Medical Grade Skincare?
The Skin Company provides our customers with the highest quality medical-grade skincare. Medical-grade skincare is results-driven and formulated to deliver the highest quality active ingredients with minimal irritation. The ingredients in medical-grade skincare are more potent than your typical high-end lines and more effective because there are no fillers or additives diluting the product. That is what you are paying for! You are not paying for packaging or marketing, you are paying for RESULTS.
If you are just starting out with medical-grade skincare and it feels overwhelming, I recommend starting with 1-2 essential products and using them consistently. When you are deciding what products to start with, I recommend putting your initial investment toward your exfoliating acids. Consistent use of an exfoliating acid will immediately bring the greatest change in your skin. As we age, our skin cell turnover slows down, leaving us with dull, textured skin. Whether it’s trichloroacetic acid, kojic acid, salicylic acid, glycolic Acid, or lactic acid, when you implement these active ingredients into your routine, you assist in the cell turnover process, leaving you with brighter, tighter, and more even-toned, glowing skin!
If you’re ready to take the plunge in medical-grade skincare, start with one of our pads. We shared our favorite dynamic duo last year, but if you’re still unsure which is best for you, here’s a rundown of our top three skin pads.
Improve Texture and Tone with Advanced Polishing Pads
Tightening, brightening, and anti-inflammatory, the Advanced Polishing Pads are a universal pad for all skin types. While they are universal, the frequency of use will depend on your skin type, sensitivity, and your skincare goals. TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid) provides mild to intense exfoliation, is controlled by contact time, and helps reduce inflamed and active acne. Salicylic acid aids exfoliation by weakening the link between cells in the outer layer of dead skin, allowing the shedding and turnover process to occur at a more optimum rate. Increased cell turnover improves skin texture, unclogs pores, and enhances penetration and effectiveness of ingredients in other products, such as vitamin C.
How to mix: Your pads will arrive with a bottle of liquid and a container of dry pads. Slowly pour the liquid solution over the pads in the container, and be sure to add the expiration date sticker dated one year from the day you mix them.
How to use: It’s too easy! Cleanse your skin thoroughly, remove one pad from the container, and replace the lid immediately (be sure to keep both lids that come with your product and always keep the container covered to maintain pad freshness). Apply pad all over the face and neck and go to sleep! You may experience a slight tingly or stingy feeling. That will subside after a few minutes. If you feel tight and dry after 15 minutes, you may apply a gentle moisturizer like this one. After consistent use, you may not feel that you need a moisturizer, but every person is different! In our dry Colorado climate, many people like the feeling of moisturizer on top. Find what works for you.
Frequency: Start by using 1-2 times per week and build up use to 2-3 if tolerable. Alternate use with your retinol.
Reduce Pigment with Illuminating Renewal Pads
Address sun damage, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and melasma with the Illuminating Renewal Pads. These pads are like a magic eraser for pigmentation. Kojic acid is an effective, potent medical-grade acid that lightens deep pigment. Salicylic acid aids in exfoliation, revealing smoother, brighter skin. Antioxidants address inflammation, stimulate collagen, and promote cell turnover.
How to mix: Your pads will arrive with a bottle of liquid, a vial of powder, and a container of dry pads. Add the powder into the solution, shake for two minutes, then slowly pour the entire bottle over the pads. Be sure to add the expiration date sticker dated 60 days from the day you mix them.
How to use: Cleanse your skin thoroughly, remove one pad from the container, and replace the lid immediately (be sure to keep both lids that come with your product and always keep the container covered to maintain pad freshness). Apply pad all over the face and neck and go to sleep! These can also be applied in the morning, ensuring that all product is absorbed before applying SPF on top. Whether you use morning or night, always use an SPF of 30 or higher every day, twice per day when using the Daily Brightening Pads, and be mindful of sun exposure.
Frequency: Start by using every day, morning or night, depending on your routine.
Heal Acne with Clarifying Triple Acid Pads
Unclog pores, exfoliate dead skin cells, resolve breakouts and prevent new ones with the Clarifying Triple Acid Pads. While these mainly cater to our acne patients, they work for all skin types. These pads combat breakouts, tighten, brighten, and give the dewy glow we’re all looking for! Glycolic acid eliminates dead skin cells, lactic acid exfoliates and hydrates, and salicylic acid unclogs pores. Together, these active, medical-grade ingredients heal active breakouts and prevent future ones. After consistent use, these pads work to eliminate active acne, reduce pigment, tighten pores, and brighten dull-looking skin.
How to use: Cleanse your skin thoroughly and apply the pad all over the face and neck. Allow to absorb into the skin, and then follow up with the rest of your skincare routine! We recommend using these in the evening and following up with your serum, retinol, and moisturizer. If you use them in the morning, be sure to finish off with sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
Frequency: Start by using 2-3x per week and build up use to every other day, eventually working up to every day.
